In August 2026, EastAfroSight successfully launched its second project in Bensa Daye, East Sidama Region and Welkite, Gurage Zone.
Cataract Surgeries at Bensa Daye General Hospital
EastAfroSight held its first of two projects in 2026 at a local hospital in Bensa Daye, in the East Sidama Region of southern Ethiopia. Residents from surrounding villages were screened for cataracts, along with other eye problems. There were a significant number of patients treated for other eye diseases.
Our team funded life-changing cataract and trachoma surgeries, restoring vision to nearly 400 people.
Cataract Surgeries at Wolkite University Hospital
Less than a week after Bensa Daye, EastAfroSight held its final project of 2026 at Wolkite University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in the Gurage Zone. Residents from surrounding villages were screened for cataracts, and over the course of a week, our team funded life-changing surgeries that restored vision for more than 300 people.
